Santhigram Press Release 07.02.2024 Research studies to find out the conservation potential of Traditional / Folk medicine (Nattuvaidyam) Data collection survey of traditional / native healers will start on 9th February in Thalassery, Kannur Dt. Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A research study is being started under the leadership of an NGO Santhigram to submit a report to the central and state governments and other related agencies on the traditional indigenous medicine sector in Kerala and the problems faced by the traditional medical community.

 Kerala Grama Panchayat Association (KGPA), Vaidya Maha Sabha, Janarogya Prasthanam, Mahatma Desa Seva Trust, Samudra Ayurveda Research Center – Vadakara, Heritage Academy of Traditional Healing & Marma – Thalassery, under the leadership of Santhigram, a voluntary organization, have conducted research in Kerala due to the lack of basic study research activities or reports that would help in the policy making necessary to protect and nurture traditional folk medicine and native knowledge.  The research study is in collaboration with traditional folk medicine organizations etc.

As part of the study, a state-level data collection of Traditional  – Folk medicine practitioners February 9 at 9.30 am at Heritage Academy of Traditional Healing & Marma, Thalassery Seydar Palli Himalaya Pharmacy Building Thalassery Municipal Chairperson K.M.  Jamunarani Teacher will perform the inauguration.

Prof.  Joe Thomas will explain the objectives and methodology of the research and study project in the keynote address.  Chairman of the Study Committee Prof.  Thomas Mathew, Chairman of Vaidya Maha Sabha National Committee Mannar G Radhakrishnan Vaidyar, General Secretary Prof.  A.  Vijayan, Mahatma Deshaseva Trust Chairman Vadakara T.  Srinivasan, State Convener of Janarogya Prasthanam Shri K. V. Sugathan, Santhigram Director L. Pankajakshan, traditional natu-vaidya organization leaders etc. will speak.

This research study and report is prepared as an authoritative document to be submitted to the central and state governments for policy formulation to protect traditional medicine and native knowledge.
