*IGNIS Kerala Confers Its First Shreshta Manava Award on L. Pankajakshan, Director, Santhigram*
Thiruvananthapuram: IGNIS Kerala, a Jesuit-associated friends’ collective, has selected Sri. L. Pankajakshan, Director of Santhigram, a community organisation based in Vizhinjam Chappath, as the recipient of its first Shreshta Manava Award (Noble Human
award)
The award honours individuals who, without the backing of formal institutions or organisations, have been consistently engaged in social action towards sustainable social development rooted in justice, social consciousness, and ecological responsibility. It recognises those who transcend boundaries of caste, religion, community, class, gender, and politics, and who embody the fundamental human values of dignity, justice, equality, freedom, and mutuality. IGNIS Kerala is a collective of friends associated with the Jesuit Society in Kerala. For over four decades, Sri. Pankajakshan has been a committed presence in the field of voluntary social action. His work focuses on empowering marginalised communities through initiatives that promote gram swaraj, strengthening local self-governance, food and health self-sufficiency, environmental and biodiversity conservation, the promotion of indigenous knowledge systems and traditional medicine, and the advancement of women’s and children’s collectives. He has also contributed significantly to guiding numerous socio-cultural and environmental organisations across Kerala and is active in movements for the conservation of India’s indigenous cattle breeds. In 2011, Sri. Pankajakshan organised the National Jackfruit Festival, and the Jackfruit Promotion Council provided leadership for six subsequent years, for a wide range of initiatives, from the state level to village communities, to popularise the nutritional and economic importance of jackfruit. In the last two and a half years, through Millet & Wellness Mission he has been leading impactful state-level programmes to promote the value of millets in ensuring a healthy, disease-free life. Equally noteworthy are the interventions led by Pankajakshan and Shanthigram to familiarise the public with the possibilities and benefits of Artificial Intelligence.
At a public function to be held at 3:00 p.m. on December 20 at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club, Ignis Kerala will present its first Shreshta Manava Puraskaram, comprising a cash award of ₹10,000 and a citation, to Santhigram Director Sri. L. Pankajakshan, to be conferred by Sri. K. Jayakumar IAS (Retd.).

തിരുവനന്തപുരം: ജെസ്വിറ്റ്സ് സുഹൃത് സംഘമായ ഇഗ്നിസ് കേരളയുടെ (IGNIS Kerala) പ്രഥമ ശ്രേഷ്ഠ മാനവ പുരസ്കാരം വിഴിഞ്ഞം ചപ്പാത്ത് കേന്ദ്രമാക്കി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ശാന്തിഗ്രാം എന്ന സന്നദ്ധസംഘടനയുടെ ഡയറക്ടർ എൽ. പങ്കജാക്ഷനാണ്.
വ്യവസ്ഥാപിത സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെയോ പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെയോ പിന്തുണയില്ലാതെ, ജാതി, മത, സാമുദായിക, വർഗ്ഗ, വർണ്ണ, ലിംഗ, രാഷ്ട്രീയ ചിന്തകൾക്കതീതമായി നീതിബോധവും സാമൂഹ്യബോധവും പരിസ്ഥിതിബോധവും വളർത്തുന്ന സുസ്ഥിര സാമൂഹ്യ വികസന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ ദീർഘകാലമായി ഏർപ്പെടുന്ന വ്യക്തികൾക്ക് നൽകുന്ന അംഗീകാരവും ആദരവുമാണ് ഈ പുരസ്കാരം. മാനവികതയുടെ ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ ഒരു സാക്ഷ്യപത്രം എന്ന പ്രഘോഷണവും ആഘോഷവുമാണ് ഈ പുരസ്കാരം സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്. മാനവികതയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാന പ്രമാണങ്ങളായ ആദരവ്, നീതി, സമത്വം, സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം, പാരസ്പര്യം എന്നീ മൂല്യങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി ജീവിക്കുന്നവരുടെ സാക്ഷ്യം. കേരളത്തിലെ ജെസ്വിറ്റ് സന്യാസ സമൂഹവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഒരു സംഘം സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെ കൂട്ടായ്മയാണ് ഇഗ്നിസ് കേരള.
കഴിഞ്ഞ നാൽപത്തിനാലു വർഷമായി എൽ. പങ്കജാക്ഷൻ സാമൂഹ്യ സന്നദ്ധ പ്രവർത്തന മേഖലയിൽ സജീവ സാന്നിധ്യമാണ്.
സാമൂഹികമായും സാമ്പത്തികമായും പിന്നോക്കം നിൽക്കുന്ന സാധാരണക്കാർക്ക് കൈത്താങ്ങാകുവാനായി ഗ്രാമസ്വരാജ്, തദ്ദേശ സ്വയംഭരണ സംവിധാനങ്ങളുടെ ശാക്തീകരണം, ഭക്ഷ്യ- ആരോഗ്യ സ്വയംപര്യാപ്തത, പരിസ്ഥിതി – ജൈവ വൈവിധ്യ സംരക്ഷണം, നാട്ടറിവ് – നാട്ടുവൈദ്യ പരിപോഷണം, സ്വാശ്രയ ബദൽ ചികിത്സാ സമ്പ്രദായങ്ങളുടെ പ്രോത്സാഹനം, സ്ത്രീകളുടേയും കുട്ടികളുടേയും സന്നദ്ധ സംഘടനകളുടേയും ശാക്തീകരണം തുടങ്ങിയ പരിപാടികൾക്ക് ഊന്നൽ നൽകിക്കൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചുവരുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലുടനീളമുള്ള ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ സാമൂഹ്യ- സാംസ്കാരിക – പരിസ്ഥിതി സംഘടനകൾക്കു ദിശാബോധം നൽകുന്നതിനും ഇന്ത്യൻ തനത് കന്നുകാലി ജനുസ്സു കളുടെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിനും പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. 2011-ൽ ദേശീയ ചക്ക മഹോത്സവവും തുടർന്ന് 6 വർഷക്കാലം ചക്കയുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം സമൂഹത്തിൽ എത്തിക്കാൻ സംസ്ഥാനതലം മുതൽ ഗ്രാമതലം വരെ വിവിധ പരിപാടികൾക്ക് ജാക്ക് ഫ്രൂട്ട് പ്രൊമോഷൻ കൗൺസിൽ (JPC) പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലൂടെ നേതൃത്വം നൽകി. രോഗമില്ലാത്ത ജീവിതത്തിന് ചെറുധാന്യങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം സമൂഹത്തിൽ എത്തിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞ രണ്ടരവർഷമായി മില്ലറ്റ്സ് & വെൽനസ് മിഷൻ സംസ്ഥാനതല പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലൂടെ നടത്തുന്ന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. നിർമ്മിത ബുദ്ധിയുടെ (Artificial intelligence) സാധ്യതകളും പ്രയോജനങ്ങളും സാധാരണക്കാരിൽ എത്തിക്കുന്നതിന് അദ്ദേഹവും ശാന്തിഗ്രാമും നടത്തുന്ന ഇടപെടലുകളും മാതൃകാപരമാണ്.
